When you think of Texas, endless white sand dunes and otherworldly desert light probably aren’t the first things that come to mind. But tucked away in West Texas, like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered, lies Monahans Sand Dunes. It’s officially one of my favorite backdrops for a bridal photoshoot. Lizzie’s post-wedding bridal photos were everything a session should be — effortless, expressive, and full of so much joy. It was the perfect chance to celebrate her time as a bride one more time with no pressure and no rules — just stunning scenery, soft golden light, and the freedom to experiment. This session proved just how fun and personal your bridal photos can be when you step outside the traditional.
Monahans Sandhills State Park feels like it belongs somewhere across the globe. Morocco? Maybe even the edge of a desert in New Mexico? But it’s all right here in Texas, and it’s every bit as breathtaking as it sounds. The dunes roll endlessly in every direction, glowing in golden hour light like something straight out of a movie. It’s the kind of place that instantly elevates a bridal photoshoot from a posed portrait session to a full-on experience. That’s exactly why we chose it for Lizzie, because her bridal story deserved something as bold and beautiful as she is. The combination of the otherworldly setting, the flowing fabric of Lizzie’s dress, and the intentional details like her bouquet by Hey There Dahlia made this bridal session feel like something far beyond Texas, and that’s the magic we’re always chasing.
Since we did these bridal photos after the wedding, there was no pressure to keep the dress pristine. Don’t worry, she had it professionally cleaned after! That freedom gave us so much room to experiment. Lizzie hiked through the sand barefoot, twirled at the top of the dunes, and fully leaned into the wildness of the landscape. She didn’t hold back, and I loved it. Her joy, movement, and personality are all over these images. The best part? At the very end, Lizzie and her best friend borrowed a plastic sled from a nearby family and flew down the dunes like kids on a snow day. Yes, in her wedding dress. It was the kind of moment you can’t script but always hope for. These are the bridal portraits you’ll want to frame. Not only beautiful, but full of memories.
Lizzie’s Monahans Sand Dunes bridal photoshoot wasn’t technically a destination wedding, but it totally had that vibe. It took a little travel, a little planning, and a whole lot of adventure spirit. If you’ve been dreaming about something different for your bridal portraits, let this be your sign. Whether you’re eloping, doing bridals after the wedding, or just want an unforgettable experience wrapped up in your photos, locations like Monahans are 100% worth the trip.
